Canterbury West Coast ECCT Chairperson

Julie Lucas

Julie has been the Chair for Canterbury West Coast ECCT since Feb 2020.  She joined the committee in 2008 and became part of the Exec in 2012.  Currently Julie is the Nurse Director Operations West Coast District Health Board.  Prior to this she was the Nurse Manager Clinical Services (Operations) for Grey Base Hospital.

Julie’s nursing career began in 1979 when she started her training to become an Enrolled Nurse. So that she could continue working in acute areas, she upskilled in 1994 to become a Registered Nurse.  In 2007, Julie was appointed Manager of the Emergency & Outpatient Departments.  During her time in this role she managed to continue her studies, gaining her Post Graduate in Emergency Nursing, followed by her Masters on Telehealth in Rural Emergency Departments.

Two passions that really drive Julie are, ensuring the West Coast population has a sustainable health care service for the future, and the belief that education is the basis to everything we do.

Julie’s commitment to further her career has seen her become very successful and respected in her current role. She credits the support from her family as playing a big part in her ability to achieve this.
